DID YOU KNOW?

Fact #1:   Beginning of the industrial revolution

Did you know that Manchester was the first industrial city in the world? This is what we call a proper fun fact.

The city was the birthplace of the famous industrial revolution, which began in 1760. It all started with a drastic rise in population which consecutively brought a higher demand for food, clothes, and jobs. This elevated demand for basic needs was the engine power for innovation. New farming techniques were developed, things started to change drastically for good and Manchester had the perfect conditions to make it happen.

New ways to live, work, and think arose from Manchester's busy warehouses, and congested streets, transforming life in Manchester and the entire world.

Fact #2: First time an atom was split

The following is a fact that not many people are aware of.

In 1917, The University of Manchester hosted one of its greatest professors, Ernest Rutherford, who changed the world as we know it by splitting an atom for the first time in history. He was previously awarded the Nobel Prize for chemistry and later made one of the most important discoveries in history.

You might be wondering how this is so important for us. Well, his discovery later helped scientists to develop nuclear power and cancer-fighting radiotherapy.

So, if you don't know this before, know you do.

Fact #3 Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders is one of the most popular shows in the UK for sure. The director, Anthony Byrne, lives in Manchester and was inspired by the lovely city to film some of the most iconic scenes for season six.

The city was considered a perfect fit as it had the perfect environment for a 1919 to 1933-themed series, which in the end gave it a real sense of authenticity.

Have you recognized which places in the city were used for filming it yet? If not we suggest that you think about the Northern Quarter, Mangle street, Back Piccadilly, or specifically Dale street. You can even look for these places around Manchester and see them in person, isn't that exciting?
