Stockholm: Navigating the Events Scene and Top Things To Do in the Sweden's Capital

Stockholm is a captivating city, blending historical charm and modern innovation. The capital of Sweden is one of the most interesting cities in Europe, with quirks and unique elements around every corner.

But beyond its picturesque canals, Stockholm hosts a vibrant conference and events scene that attracts professionals, business-people and enthusiasts alike. Let’s explore the landscape of Stockholm, delving into some fascinating facts that make it a prime destination for global gatherings in all industries.

Stockholm is not just a city, it's a destination that should be on your list! Mixing history with a modern twist, it's like stepping into a time machine and landing in a place where innovation and a forward thinking society meets cobblestone streets and centuries of history.

Things to do…

First off, why not take a stroll through Gamla Stan – the old town where history practically waves at you from every corner. Take for example the Royal Palace, Swedish Parliament and if you're into ships that time forgot, then check out the Vasa Museum, which features a 17th-century warship recovered from the Baltic Sea, which is still 98% intact, a must-see when venturing around the city.

Fotografiska and Nationalmuseum cover all things art in Stockholm, however the city actually has 16 individual art galleries, displaying pieces from Swedish and international artists. For boutique shopping, head to Södermalm for countless streets lined with unique stores. Stockholm has endless restaurants, 3,300 to be exact, however some of the best are in Östermalm, head here to go on a Swedish culinary adventure.

There is so much to see and do in the Swedish capital, the city is practically on stilts, as it spread across fourteen individual islands, each with its own activities – and you can explore them all using the expansive metro, aka the world's longest gallery on wheels. Many of Stockholm’s 90 stations feature unique art installations, such as full bleed paintings on the roofs of the stations. The city features expansive green spaces to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, such as Sodermalm park. Stockholm's not just green in parks; it's green in spirit, from the first carbon-neutral airport at Arlanda to the emission-free metro, sustainability is the MVP.

During the summer months, Stockholm is pure magic, with eighteen hours of sunlight, allowing for more time on those waterfront strolls and evening drinks. Winter's a different story with just six hours of daylight, however, that's when the city's gothic architecture really shines.

Corporate Events Scene…

Stockholm is a thriving hub of innovation, and it has long been celebrated for this, with countless start-ups turned household names (Klarna, Ikea and H&M just to name a few), technology giants and research institutions calling the city home. This environment naturally fosters a rich conference and events scene.

When talking about Stockholm’s corporate events, it’s hard to pick a city in Europe which does it better. Innovation and sustainability are key to the events scene, hosting tech fests and sustainability conventions throughout the year, such as the famous Stockholm Tech Fest. The city ensures it’s core values of remaining green carry to its events, from renewable energy at conferences to waste management, operating in this way is a lifestyle for the people of Stockholm.

This progressive school-of-thought is not new to the city, Stockholm is associated with Nobel Prizes, the awards ceremony has taken place here every single year in December since 1901! This is one of the most highly regarded events on the planet, but it's not the only standout annual gathering; the Polar Music Prize and Stockholm Design Week Awards bring some of the best-of-the-best to the city too. For Venues, Stockholm's got you covered. Stockholm International Fairs and The Waterfront Congress Centre are standout spots for us, with the waterfront centre featuring views unlike any venue of this calibre.

Stockholms event and conference scene is characterised by its welcoming atmosphere, the city embraces diversity among its gatherings and remains a melting pot of innovation and sustainability. With its continuous forward thinking direction, wide array of activities and commitment to green-living the city will keep on attracting professionals and tourists alike from all over the world.
